ZODML Senior Secondary Reading Programme took place yesterday the 23rd of February 2015 between students of Falomo Senior High School and Government Senior College Maroko. The session kicked off with an opening prayer by Olowu Hassan of Government Senior College Maroko with a brief introduction by everyone.
The selected book for the reading session was Meet Addy by Connie Porter. Caroline Wabara, the guest speaker presented a summary of the book “The story is about a slave family working for a master Stevens in 1864 at North Carolina.  One night, a young girl named Addy overhears her parents talking about running away to freedom. But along the line, the family were split up and Addy and her mother ended up running away”.  Caroline created an interactive session by asking various questions about the novel such as their favourite character and lesson learnt to mention a few. The students were eager to answer her questions.  She read out her favourite part of the novel which stresses the theme of slavery.
After this, the students took a tour around the library. Following was the announcement of the five students whose piece was shortlisted from a total of 25 entries; the top three winners read their piece to everyone. Chiagozi – the programme coordinator revealed the winner as selected by the guest speaker. The winners were Atunde Adam, Muhammed Amina and Ugbogbo Philip (first, second and third respectively). Each was rewarded with a book as well as  all of the participants. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by given by one of the students.
