By Nkem Egenuka on Thu, 29/11/2018 - 18:23

Zaccheus Onumba Dibiaezue Onumba (ZODML) in collaboration with the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) has established many Prison Libraries in Nigeria. We have set up libraries in prisons in Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Enugu, Oyo and Osun state respectively. These libraries have helped the prisoners to study and develop themselves. It has particularly helped those who have enrolled for National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

We established an Internet Learning Centre in Ikoyi Prison which earned us an award for excellence from the Nigerian Prison Service Ikoyi.

On September 7, 2018, Nigerian Prison Service was invited to Paris to receive the UNESCO Confucius Award for Literary and Skills' Development, for its ‘National Open University of Nigeria - Nigerian Prisons Study centres and inmates General Education Programme’.

Out of the many countries that participated, Nigeria was one of the three countries that were awarded prizes. This is the first time Nigerian Prison Service and NOUN is receiving this kind of international recognition.

ZODML congratulates Nigerian Prison Service on the award and promises to continue to work with them to improve the education of prisoners.
