ZODML Community talks on Valentine and Love

What is the meaning of love in this Valentine Season? Read the interesting opinion of the ZODML community. We love what this season is all about- so why not share it with you. After reading, you can drop your comments on what valentine means to you. I also look forward to reading how you spent your valentine.

“How and when did I get to know about Valentine day.  I remember clearly, it was way back in the seventies when I read ‘’FAR FROM THE MADDENING CROWD’’ by Thomas Hardy. The heroine of the novel  Bathesheba  Everdene sent a secret letter to farmer Oak saying ‘’marry me’’. Valentine day celebrates love and on that day you may send a secret message to someone you admire. The thrill is in the secrecy. The loved one spends time, days, months, even puzzled, and wondering who the secret admirer could be.

All that has changed. Valentine day has gone commercial and almost everyone knows about it .The love message is now open and sent to husbands, wives, sisters, and  to my shock, even to mothers and colleagues.  It has also become expected. I haven’t heard of  that husband who forgets Valentine. His wife will ‘’show him pepper.’’

As the season approaches, the shops are filled with colourful cards and gifts in anticipation of the Valentine day, and the very air is filled with expectation. Women and girls in their offices and schools wait to show off their Valentine offerings to the unfortunates who will get little or nothing.

Though I am cut off from it all because I believe it’s for young lovers, and the romantic in me still cherishes the old and traditional practice of a secret message to an unsuspecting admired one, I look forward to Valentine day. Why, because it is another period with an atmosphere of festivity and colour.”

“Love is a feeling that makes one go the extra mile for the other person. Love is expected to be shown to God, Spouse, Siblings, friends, colleague and the less fortunate.

All through the year, feelings are being shown to one another, but the one day that stands out for Love is Valentine’s Day. On this day every year, Lovers  all around the world celebrate this day by showing love to one another by giving gifts, going on dates and spending some alone time with our loved ones.

However, the best way of celebrating Valentine’s Day is to visit and give to the less privilege.”

                                                                                                                                                   -Olawale Haruna

“Valentine to me means a lot, but mostly, it is  a day you show love to others.”

                                                                                                                                                        -Joy Nwosu

“Sending love messages on Valentine's day does not solely originates from the Valentine's note the jailer’s blind daughter received. It is also tied to the traditions of the Romans were beautiful maidens write LOVE letters and the unmarried men come to pick the letters and finally court the maiden whose letters they have read. Valentine's Day to me signifies a day of love were minds are bared out to loved ones (families, friends, neighbors and lovers) revealing what and how you feel about them.”

                                                                                                                                                      -Aminehi Stephen.

Indeed, the period of Valentine marks the sharing of true love to your loved ones and the less privileged. Although, Valentine is celebrated on February 14, showing love, care, concern and kindness to people around should be an everyday affair. We need to change our orientation on the true importance of Valentine and it should not to be based on selfish desires.”

                                                                                                                                                     -Shobamiwa. A. Ayoola

‘It is a day I express love and affection to my beloved and the less privileged people in the society. I will celebrate my Valentine’s day by going to church and presenting a gift to a little boy in my church who was rejected by his mother. Later in the evening I  hope to give myself a good treat in a fine restaurant’

                                                                                                                                                      -Nkechiyere Nwoji

‘If you truly love someone, you’ll want them to be happy even if it’s not with you. Once you become consciously aware of just how powerful your thoughts are, you’ll realize everything in your life is exactly how you allow it to be’

                                                                                                                                                      -Francis Babafemi

‘Love is not how you forget but how you forgive; not how you listen but how you understand. It is not what you see, but how you feel and not how you let go but hold on. The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything. The greatest thing in life is finding someone who knows all your mistakes and differences and still finds you absolutely amazing’

                                                                                                                                                         -Pat Nkadi

‘I see Valentine’s day from a historical perspective. It is a day to show love to people no matter the colour or race. It is a time to show love to all the less privileged, the sick, the homeless, the rejected and people who do not know the meaning of valentine. To me, the love being talked about on valentine’s day is the agape love.

                                                                                                                                                       -Chiagozi Diala

‘Love is acknowledging and appreciating the kindness, acceptance and selflessness people have shown to you and this Valentine season is the best time to show them you love them too’

                                                                                                                                                      - Lordson Daki

‘We have busy schedules as adults, which may prove difficult to show love always. Valentine season signifies a time we need to drop everything and truly see the people around us and shower them with love. A hug, a smile, a lovely message, a call, hanging with friends isn’t just for them because it makes you feel complete too. I’m very happy it’s on a Sunday, that way I get to spend the first hours of the day in church just loving Him (God) like I always do. After church, I will go watch a movie or swim with my dad.’
