Ms Yemi Fawaz was born in Nigeria to a Lebanese father and a Nigerian mother. She pioneered professional modeling in Nigeria in the late 70s, became Nigeria's first super model and Miss Nigeria of 1983.
Fawaz established a modeling school and promoted the fashion industry in Nigeria and West Africa, dominating soft sell and gossip tabloids. She left Nigeria o New York 1997 and did not return until 2016. She had a successful career as a fashion and photographic model, beauty promoter/consultant, fashion designer, beautician, trade show organizer, chef and a restaurateur for over 30years. She was successful in her modelling carrier and groomed many models.
She became born again in 1991 and later had her followership as a Deaconess in New York. In 1999, she was diagnosed with a congestive heart failure.
Deaconess Yemi Fawaz passed away on February 20th 2019, at New York Lenox Hill Hospital, aged 64 years. It is said that she battled colon cancer for a while. She also had a hole in her heart and her kidney had begun to fail.
She is survived by her daughter, Tobi Fawaz.
