“There are many little ways to enlarge your world. Love of books is the best of all.” – Jacqueline Kennedy
Each year, ZODML takes fourteen public school pupils/students to the Nigeria International Book Fair, Reading for Development Initiative and the Lagos Book and Art Festival (LABAF) at which they participate in a variety of literary activities and receive books paid for by the organisation.
The Nigeria International Book Fair is currently the biggest book event in Africa and brings together a wide range of members of the book industry from within and outside Nigeria to network and trade.
Reading for development initiative is organised by a private individual. It brings together publishers and book stores within Nigeria to network and trade
LABAF, organised by the CORA Art Foundation, has been dubbed “Africa’s biggest culture picnic” and is a celebration of and a platform for promoting books, reading, and knowledge. It achieves this through a weekend-long programme which includes reading workshops for teenagers; panel discussions on contents of selected books; cross cultural exchange between Nigerian writers and writers from elsewhere in the world; and book exhibitions and sales.
Exposing students to the richness of Nigeria and Africa’s book culture, publishers, and writers help inspire an appreciation for literature that will see them through the rest of their lives.
