10 Year Old Nigerian Zuriel Oduwole Becomes Ethiopian Airlines’ Global Ambassador
Another day, another inspiring child leaving a remarkable trail for her peers to follow! Zuriel Elise Oduwole, a 10 year-old Nigerian girl, has been appointed Ethiopian Airlines’ Global Ambassador.
Oduwole first came to public attention when she was profiled in the August 2013 edition of Forbes Africa for the achievements of her “Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up” campaign through which she champions the cause of girls’ education. A talented journalist and filmmaker (she produced her first documentary at the age of 9), Oduwole has interviewed 8 sitting heads of state, Aliko Dangote (a fellow Nigerian and the richest black man in the world), tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. She is also the youngest person to receive accreditation at a global press conference, holding her own next to veteran correspondents from CNN, Reuters, and CNBC. Her ambassadorial position with Ethiopian Airlines is the second she has under her belt: she was also appointed an honorary ambassador to Tanzania by Salma Kikwete, the country’s first lady. Kagnew Asfaw, the Ethiopian Airlines Regional Director for the Americas, who signed the MOU confirming Oduwole’s appointment on behalf of the African airline at an event in the United States, stressed her astonishing achievements at such a young age as the key motive behind the decision to make her their ambassador. As part of the agreement, Ethiopian Airlines will be Oduwole’s official transporter as she travels the world gaining support for her cause. Watch Oduwole address officials at an event in Lagos and answer questions about her work (as well as give a great impression of the President of Malawi): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5y4WvlpQiw Congrats to Zuriel for her admirable achievements!
