ZODML Poetry Corner: For June 12

Submitted by admin on 12 June 2013

June 12 by Dave Agboola

“How time flies” – the slogan of those who observe time,
And it’s exactly two decades today
That a mandate was stolen
The freest and fairest of all elections they said it was
When all and sundry for the first time in this great nation of ours
Came out en masse to say yes
To the one who they thought really deserved the YES!

Nostalgic I am today of those electioneering periods,
The jingles on the TV and radio still ring in my head:
“On the march again...”
But justice was beaten black and blue in broad daylight,
Increasing the number of widows, widowers and orphans in our land,
And a mandate got murdered with impunity!

On the march again, on the march again,
We are still looking for the real Mr President.
Here we are with our thinking caps properly donned,
Still on the lookout for OUR MAN!

On the march again, on the march again,
Here we are, still awaiting fair justice
For the crude methods of Oga Evil Genius.
Who has already conquered death!

And until that day,
When the hidden facts about June 12 are revealed to us,
When wicked souls in our land are repentant of their doings,
When the right day is given its place,
June 12 will always remain our landmark!
