April is National Poetry Month in the USA and with the tragic events that took place this week in Boston, Texas and Iran, poems have provided me with much-needed comfort and perspective in these sad times. Three particular favourites of mine - as striking for their beautiful language as they are for the messages of hope, light and life they convey - are Charles Bukowski's "The Laughing Heart," RS Thomas's "The Bright Field" and Vladimir Nabokov's "The Poem". I also recommend checking out the New York Public Library's tweeted poem posts over on their Tumblr page for bite-sized inspiration to brighten up your day. - Mena Odu The news of Margaret Thatcher’s death was such a rude shock to my family. Immediately my wife and I saw the update on CNN, what was surprising to both of us was the fact that Margaret Thatcher just died - we thought she had died earlier. This was somewhat embarrassing to me. And having shaken off exam’s hassles, I will be taking my time to read every piece I can on Thatcher  this weekend. - Dave Agboola If the weekend was for resting then I guess it’s an oversight of its connotative meaning. My to-do list for this weekend is full of household duties. I just wonder if Cinderella ever got tired of house chores with those lazy step sisters of hers. I will also be babysitting this weekend and I know how to take care of kids but I bet you that Stacey McGill, Super Sitter in The Baby-sitters Club series does it even better. - Morayo Oshodi Unless you've been under a rock, you've heard of the craziness that has been happening in the States and in Iran. It has been one crazy thing after another, and the only thing that makes me feel better - even if it's just for a little bit - is music. Every second Friday of the month, the Symphony of Love is held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. No matter what denomination you are, there is nothing like praise and worship. Come for an hour, or come for all three, if you are looking for something to lift your spirits, see you at 7pm. - Ayodele Dele-Giwa What are you up to this weekend? Let us know by leaving a comment. Have a great weekend!
