Osun is one of the six states that make up the South West geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It has interstate boundaries withOndo State to the southeast, Kwara State to the north, Ekiti State to the northeast, Oyo State to the west, and Ogun State to the southwest. Its capital is Osogbo.

Osun State covers an area of 8,700 square kilometres. It has a population of 3,416,959 (2006 census figures) and a population density of 379 people per square kilometre. The state accounts for 2.4% of Nigeria's total population.
