Book Talk with Dr. Mary Nwaogu: Family Fun At The Park
By Victor O.
On a sunny February 25th, 2025, the ZODML team welcomed 34 eager pupils from Jinadu Anglican Primary School and Ireti Primary School to a captivating Book Talk session. The author whose book was to be discussed at the event was none other than Dr Mary-Joan Nwaogu, who delighted the young audience with her colourful book, "Family Fun At The Park".
As the pupils settled in, Dr Nwaogu regaled them with the tale of Mr and Mrs Mike's exciting outing with their two daughters, Princess Rise and Princess Wise. The children's faces were rapt with attention as they imagined the thrill of the Buggy Ride and the joy of visiting the pet corner with Kastor and Birdie.
But the session was more than just a fun storytelling experience. Dr. Nwaogu shared valuable writing tips with her young audience, emphasizing the importance of selecting a catchy title, being an avid reader, and observing the world around them for inspiration. The pupils listened intently, their minds racing with ideas.
The Q&A session that followed was a highlight of the event. The pupils asked thoughtful questions, and those who answered correctly were rewarded with copies of Dr. Nwaogu's books. The excitement could be felt in the air as the book pupils engaged with the author.
But that wasn't all – the pupils had also been tasked with writing their alternate endings to Dr. Nwaogu's story. Ms Ayo Obe, a member of ZODML's board of trustees, read out the top five entries, and the audience voted for their favourite. The winners were announced, and the proud pupils received their prizes.
As the event drew to a close, Dr. Nwaogu signed books for all the pupils who were beaming with pride. The young participants left with big smiles on their faces, clutching their signed books and newfound inspiration to become writers themselves. It was a truly unforgettable experience, and we can't wait to see what these talented young minds achieve in the future!
