On Wednesday, May 15th, 2024 we hosted Mr. Samuel Monye at our library for our first ever virtual book talk. Virtual book talks have expanded our reach, now we are able to host Nigerian authors living all over the world.

Our Book Talk program aims to bring students and authors together to discuss the chosen book and let the author give tips and advice to these young minds who may be interested in a future as an author.

Mr. Monye’s book was distributed to Junior Secondary students. He discussed his book Give Us Each Day with students from Ireti Junior Grammar School and Falomo Junior High School. Even though it was a virtual book talk we closely maintained our typical agenda. When we arrived at the portion of the book talk where the author reads his favorite part of the book, Mr. Monye said he wrote his book so all of it is his favorite but for the sake of choosing he read out chapter 8.

After which our Board of Trustee member, Mrs. Ayo Obe, read out the alternate endings. I must say this session’s endings were especially creative. The winner had such a plot twist and won by a landslide. Prizes were then awarded to all five stories. It was an engaging session where the students enjoyed getting to know the author and asking questions. Mr. Monye gave feedback, advice and encouraged the students to keep writing.

As we concluded the event there was a brief library tour for the students as we encouraged them to come to the library. We ended the event by handing out refreshments.

It was an enjoyable Book Talk!
