Brittle Paper Shares 10 Quotes On Storytelling by Ben Okri

Submitted by admin on 13 May 2014

Ainehi Edoro of the fantastic African literature blog Brittle Paper recently shared 10 excellent quotes from Nigerian writer Ben Okri (known for his Booker Prize-winning novel The Famished Road). Here are a few which we particularly loved:
To poison a nation, poison its stories. A demoralised nation tells demoralised stories to itself. Beware of the storytellers who are not fully conscious of the importance of their gifts, and who are irresponsible in the application of their art. Stories can conquer fear, you know. They can make the heart bigger. The best writing is not about the writer, the best writing is absolutely not about the writer, it’s about us, it’s about the reader.
