Durbar Riders: Image of the Day (July 9, 2013)
The Durbar Festival is a centuries-old celebration which takes place at the culmination of Muslim festivals Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (or Sallah, as the period is referred to in Nigeria). A spectacular traditional parade of ornately dressed Hausa-Fulani horsemen pays homage every year to the traditional emirs. Kano State, the subject of our Discover Nigeria featured article of the week, is renowned for its Durbar celebrations.
