Are you a student in any level or discipline? Or a professional, a business inclined person, etc? Then, this article is for you. Now, let's dive right in.

Research is a common word used all over and it can be said to be the collection, analysis, and interpretion of information done in a systematic order to provide answers to questions, solutions to problems, or discover new knowledge. It is one of the bedrocks of science, academics, business, healthcare, and everyday activities.

The importance of using quality information for your research work cannot be overemphasized as research works are not only meant to be structured and systematic but also logical, evidence-based and objective.

Gathering quality information is the foundation of any thriving research project. The authenticity of your project lies to a large extent on the credibility and relevance of the information you are using. It doesn't matter if you are working on an academic research, carrying out a scientific research, or organising a report. Below, I'll be highlighting a step-by-step guide to aid your collection of high-quality information.

1. HAVE A CLEAR DEFINITION OF YOUR RESEARCH TOPIC

It is essential that you have a clear understanding of what you want to research on before looking for quality information to facilitate it. Know your general and specific objectives; what and what you hope to achieve at the end of the research. Divide your topic into key concepts or research questions.

2. SET OUT A RESEARCH PLAN

After you are done defining your research topic, there should be a laid down plan on how you are going to carry out the research. Your plan should be well structured as to save you time and energy. Adequate planning helps you to be organised and concentrated on the main goal.

3. SEARCH FOR CREDIBLE SOURCES OF INFORMATION

Reliable information sources should be prioritised as not all information sources should be trusted. Some of these sources include: academic journals, textbooks, renowned organisations like educational or health outlets, government publications, etc. Take caution to avoid random blogs, websites or social media information that may not be credible.

4. MAKE USE OF DIFFERENT SOURCES OF INFORMATION

It is not advisable to rely on just one source of information as it can result to incomplete information or bias. There should be comparison and contrasting of data from various data sources. Evaluate their consistency and confirm their credibility.

5. MAKE USE OF THE RIGHT DATA COLLECTION METHODS

This could involve the use of structured questionnaires or interview guides. Ensure that consent was taken from the study population and confidentiality of every information given out was assured. Good data collection methods improves the relevance and reliability of your research work.

Every information gotten should be cross-checked and its authenticity verified. Ensure proper organisation of your work and proper citation of your information sources as all these contribute to the success of a good research work.
