ZODML Recommends: Comic Books, Sweet Mother and Gone With The Wind

Submitted by admin on 11 May 2013

This weekend I will be reading Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. When I stumbled on the book on the library shelf at ZODML I just couldn’t resist its appealing front cover - turning to the back cover was what sealed my resolve to reading this book - I love historical epics and this was one of a kind. Set against the back drop of the American Civil War, the story is about beautiful and ruthless Scarlett O’Hara and the dashing soldier of fortune, Rhett Butler. - Morayo Oshodi The interview with Bongos Ikwue featured in today's Great Reads has made me nostalgic for some old-school African tunes. If you're missing the sounds of your (or your parents') youth, I recommend checking out the following: a 1970s/80s mixtape by Chico Mann of the band Antibalas (who feature in the musical about his life); some wonderful fuji via the blog Awesome Tapes from Africa; and finally, in honour of Mother's Day this Sunday, the classic Sweet Mother by Prince Nico Mbarga. - Mena Odu As a kid, I loved comic books - from Archie and the gang to the superhero comics (Superman, Batman, the Avengers, etc.). I could read about four in a day; they were so entertaining, funny, and easy to read. This weekend, I recommend revisiting some of the crazy stories from the gang. **side note: who did you prefer: Betty or Veronica?** And if you're looking for some action, check out the Marvel comics with your favourite superheroes (Iron Man 3 with Robert Downey, Jr. is also in cinemas. The trailer is amazing! Can't wait to check out the movie this weekend.) - Ayodele Dele-Giwa  Apart from spending part of this weekend fixing my car, I will be busy in my music class: having been through with learning how to play musical instruments with my students, I will be showing them some singing tips on becoming good singers. I just can't wait to start singing again. - Dave Agboola What are you up to this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
