ZODML Recommends: The Last King of Scotland, Weddings

Submitted by admin on 7 April 2013

I am attending my sister’s friend’s wedding this weekend, and although I’m not usually a big fan of Lagos weddings (too many people and fruit cake for my taste), I’m excited to see the beautiful bride walk down the aisle. In that vein, I found this thought-provoking Slate article on the benefits of marrying young pretty interesting. – Mena Odu Reading Giles Foden’s The Last King of Scotland is akin to taking a trip through a time-machine. That is what I will be doing this weekend – journeying into the dark, corrupt, charismatic and blood-lustful world of Idi Amin, the infamous dictator of Uganda, through the eye of his personal physician Dr Nicholas Garrigan. I am taking no bags with me and no judgments - just want to have a pleasurable ride. – Frank Onuoha It’s wedding season in Nigeria! Actually, every month is wedding season in this country. Fortunately, I get to attend a friend’s wedding this weekend (there are about three weddings that I know of this weekend…and the receptions are in the same place! I don't think there will be any Bride Wars-esque things going on though). One thing Nigerians go all out for is celebrations – weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and…just because. I am not a fan of “excess”, but I am a huge fan of dancing, and I will be doing a lot of that this weekend. – Ayodele Dele-Giwa What are you doing this weekend?
